Research for practice

We are a practice-orientated institute of higher education that works on the development of the fundamentals of political decision-making and law reform. We evaluate pilot projects and undertake surveys, monitor projects and data evaluations. In this way we contribute to the sustainable management of social problems. We are also involved in the development of research-based professional practice and an effective social policy.

We see it as our task to analyse research topics from routine social work from the academic point of view. A transfer of the knowledge generated is an essential part of this process. This is the only way that our research can have the desired effect.

We offer the following services to our partners:

  • Evaluation studies
  • Synthesis creation and overview reports
  • Monitoring activities
  • Preliminary investigations and literature research
  • Consultation services for organisations and institutions

Our success is attributable to our use of a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques. We are able to work on your project using, for example:

  • Surveys
  • Discussions with experts
  • Focus groups
  • Observation/monitoring activities
  • Statistical analyses

Our research is based on the latest insights from theory and practice and is characterised by our extensive use of interdisciplinary approaches. The specialists involved work in a wide range of different disciplines: social work, law, sociology, political science, economics and psychology. We utilise our synergies with our Health and Business divisions and with other disciplines at Bern University of Applied Sciences. We also undertake projects in cooperation with external research organisations.
